The innovative study of SIA is: an intelligent control technology of robots’ processing and contact forces over thin-walled sculptured surfaces based on contact stiffness feedback; a processing path planning technology for robots of thin-walled sculptured surfaces with variable stiffness; a rapid high-precision positioning technology for thin-walled sculptured surface parts; a reasoning technology of robot removal and processing techniques of thin-walled sculptured surface parts with variable stiffness, etc. A complete technological system of automated grinding and polishing of thin-walled sculptured surface parts with variable stiffness is established, and has been utilized in key engineering domains such as robotic grinding and polishing of transparent parts of aircraft cockpits, blisk of aero-engines and aero-engine cases. A significant improvement is observed in robotic grinding and polishing efficiency, as compared with human labor, and the product consistency is highly improved while substantial labor costs are saved.
